Informative Graphics Corp. Announces MYRIAD In French and German

Informative Graphics Corporation proudly announces the French and German language release of MYRIAD, the popular document, drawing and 3D model view and redline program for enterprise web-enabled E/PDM and intranet-based document systems. MYRIAD provides a single and common user interface to imaging, Office Documents, Adobe and CAD, including an optional add-on for 3D visualization. In addition to existing MYRIAD localizations in English and Japanese (Kanji), the French and German capabilities should serve to enable broader global usage of the popular program.

“Despite the prevalence of English as the common language for engineering and science, we are well aware of users’ need to communicate ideas, changes and design refinements in their native languages. As a result, we are proud to now offer the power and flexibility of MYRIAD to a wider segment of the world engineering and design population,” said Gary Heath, CEO and President of Informative Graphics.

MYRIAD supports more than 150 formats, including CAD drawings, redlines, prints, images, documents and 3D models. MYRIAD helps ensure error-free engineering change, compliance with standards and faster implementation of E/PDM with greater user buy-in. Interfaces for Netscape, Internet Explorer and Acrobat are available. MYRIAD offers users several viewing and visualization functionalities, including dynamic bird’s eye, eyeglass, zoom and pan, as well as side-by-side and overlay comparison. Among the change and review features are concurrent redlining and the Changemarks redline review tool.

Printing and Web publishing tools, including intelligent printing and plotting that automatically detects the correct size and orientation at which to print documents and drawings, make MYRIAD a powerful idea communication tool. Many E/PDM systems maintain attribute information about the document that is just as important as the document content itself. MYRIAD can extend ISO9000 best practices to allow E/PDM attribute information output on hardcopy prints. MYRIAD’s print bannering and watermarking can be configured to embed record name, metadata-queried attributes (document status, title, revision level, released by, etc.), along with system settings (such as today’s date plus 2 days to indicate when a plot expires), further enhancing document control procedures.

MYRIAD also has a network install feature that minimizes the System Administration effort required in large network deployments of the software. The MYRIAD 3D option offers support for viewing models and images in SolidWorks 99 and VRML. Users can identify parts by selecting them on the 3D model or visually light up specific parts in assemblies through a Find operation. The 3D option helps users reduce software ownership, system administration and reproduction costs associated with deploying 3D modeling software across networks.

Contex Introduces New CHROMA 40" Wide-Format Color Scanners

Contex Scanning Technology announced their new series of CHROMA 40" wide-format color scanners, adding what promises to be yet another winner to probably the most complete line of wide-format scanners on the market today. The CHROMA scanner has a 40-inch (1016 mm) wide imaging area to input large color posters, architectural sketches, maps, photos, drawings, fine art etc. Contex' Managing Director, Steen Borg, continues, "the CHROMA can even scan these materials when mounted on rigid board up to 0.6" (15mm.) thick and at new speeds of up to 2.5" per second at 200 dpi".  "The CHROMA scanner is compatible with most large-format inkjet printers and with our free JETimage copy software, with touchscreen support, we provide a unique and easy to use touch n' go digital color copier, by simply linking the CHROMA scanner to an inkjet printer" says Steen Borg.

The scanning capabilities and features of the CHROMA 40" include: all digital cameras with advanced point-of-origin color capture for low noise and extended dynamic range, unique Area Diffusion Logic (ADL+) to also copy demanding black/white and graytone originals, on-board real-time color correction and 2D-filters for color sharpening and softening providing superior results with a wide variety of input images. The new series of CHROMA color scanners from Contex provide 600 and 800 dpi, differing in performance from entry level to high end, and can be upgraded with a smart card that enables new features for future requirements.

In another release, the company announced the release of its innovative color copying software JETimage 2.0. JETimage is a complete color copying software application designed as a free interface tool between the Contex line of wide-format scanners and a wide range of inkjet printers. "A general problem with the color scan-to-print copy process is matching the original input colors with the printer's output colors", says Jorgen Rasmussen, Software Development Manager at Contex. "Scanners can see many more colors than printers can print, so a solution must be found for all the unmatched colors."

With closed loop calibration and JETimage, Contex created a joint hardware and software solution to the problem that allows the scanner to read the entire color range of the printer before copying. The software calculates the best possible mapping of scanner colors to printer colors using the selected paper type as one of the parameters. Guided by a calibration wizard feature, test patches are printed and then scanned to automatically generate a color-matching map that will be applied during copying. As a standard, the JETimage software includes optimal color mapping schemes for the most popular printers and media. Jorgen Rasmussen adds, " in fact, with JETimage you can control all aspects of your printed output with convenient options for output size, margins, print quality, media type and copy layout."

The JETimage interface includes a preview window that provides not only control of settings, but also a wide range of on-screen copy manipulation tools such as zoom, pan and align. The copy frame indicates how selected ouput size will effect the margins and crop the image. Copying color originals with tonal adjustments include lightness, black/white point and saturation. JETimage is a powerful, professional tool enabling easy production of vivid high quality color-corrected copies and also exploits the monochrome scanning features for perfect black and white copy assignments. A free demo version of JETimage 2.0 can be downloaded on the Contex website at www.contexscan.com.

LMS Releases OPTIMUS 2.2 for Automated Design Space Exploration

LMS International announces the release of LMS OPTIMUS Rev 2.2. OPTIMUS is an environment for automated design space exploration: by modeling product performance as a multi-dimensional function of chosen design variables, it gives the engineer critical insights into the design itself. It can then intelligently find the optimum point in the design space using a combination of gradient methods or - new for this product release - state-of-the-art genetic methods, automating and monitoring the whole simulation process and thereby eliminating one of the most tedious tasks in design engineering. OPTIMUS can link to any simulation code, even legacy systems, and helps engineers being more effective with their existing codes and models - instead of having them start again from scratch with new, unfamiliar tools, or throwing away years of investment.

With its newest release, the OPTIMUS Design of Experiments (DoE) module can now run across a network of Unix, NT workstations and CRAY supercomputers in parallel.  This enables massive productivity benefits by reducing job turn around time to a fraction of today's serial mode.  The parallelization is achieved through the interface of OPTIMUS and LSF from Platform Computing Corporation - the world's leading provider of workload management products.  LSF is a batch job processing system for distributed and heterogeneous environments, which ensures optimal resource sharing by robust load sharing and sophisticated batch scheduling.  The new parallel module provides seamless integration with existing LSF installations, and can be added to any OPTIMUS Rev. 2.1 seat.  Turn around improvements of up to 70% have been recorded.

LMS OPTIMUS has become the preferred tool for automated design space exploration and multi-disciplinary design optimization at major companies across different industries. Reference customers include General Motors, Honda, BMW, Opel, McLaren Cars, Ricardo, Rieter Automotive, Delphi, Philips Research and Oxford Magnet Technologies.
