PLP Digital Systems Announces Printfold Support...

PLP Digital Systems announces its DCRS (Document Control and Reprographics System) now includes full support for Printfold 3150 Document Folder with the Xerox 8855, KIP 9010, 9820, and 7095 printers; and for Printfold 2150 Document Folder with the Xerox 8830, KIP 3620, 3820, and 1230 printers, through the DCRS' PlotWorks digital reprographics software component. By using DCRS' PlotWorks to control a printer and the Printfold folder, users get the added benefits of high-speed processing, complete job control, and full jam recovery. Via PlotWorks, DCRS electronically connects the printer with the folder and controls the entire print job -from job submission through folding - with no penalty in performance. PlotWorks provides complete control of all fold types and other folding parameters supported by the Printfold folder. Folding parameters can be specified with other job parameters, and then either submitted through the PlotWorks Client, set as a default parameter for a network polling directory, or added/changed by an administrator after submission to a PlotWorks hub. Because it maintains full control of print jobs from submission through folding, PlotWorks' sophisticated jam recovery feature includes jams in the folder. If a job jams during folding, the product detects this, then reprints and refolds the job after the jam is cleared. Contact Susan Alden at 602-949-7568, susana@plp.com.

Cartia Software Organizes Massive Amounts Of Information Onto Interactive Topographical Maps...

ThemeScape 1.0, is a new application for managing high volumes of information. Using a process known as Enterprise Information Mapping (EIM), ThemeScape automatically harvests massive amounts of unstructured text, extracts the major themes and topics, and creates an interactive map of the information. The topographical maps show a big-picture view of the content within large quantities of documents, web pages, e-mail, and other sources. The topographical landscapes produced by ThemeScape are not just maps of documents. They are the information within those documents. Major themes rise from the surface, much like mountain peaks, indicating a concentration of documents around a given topic. The distance between the peaks indicates how closely different themes are related. For example, peaks labeled "Internet" and "E-Commerce" might appear in close proximity, but relatively distant from a peak labeled "Keyboards." These visual cues rapidly accelerate a user's ability to understand the context of information. ThemeScape generates the maps and assigns topic labels automatically, a key requirement when organizing high volumes of incoming information. There is no manual classification or taxonomy, and no tagging of individual documents. Because the system actually extracts content, the maps and labels are automatically tailored to the information being harvested. For more information, contact Mike New, VP of Marketing, at 425-602-3550.

USDATA Ships Xfactory...

USDATA Corporation announced that it began shipping its Xfactory object modeling MES, the innovative new Manufacturing Execution System which was introduced at Microsoft Headquarters in June. Xfactory, which incorporates Microsoft's newest technologies and is built on Microsoft DNA (Distributed interNet Applications) architecture, is the first and only MES system to successfully apply visual object modeling to the manufacturing environment. Xfactory is a work-in-process (WIP) tracking product that enables factories

to integrate, coordinate and manage data across multiple levels - including all areas of production, inventory management, scheduling, planning and business management. It creates a visual representation of the factory using objects that represent different manufacturing functions. Xfactory allows the user to point, click, drag and drop with complete control of real-time manufacturing. This easy-to-use, Windows NT-based,

object-oriented program is scalable from the smallest to the most complex manufacturing installations. The Xfactory architecture is based entirely on ActiveX components. Client components can be incorporated in such environments as Visual Basic, C/C++, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) packages, such as USDATA's FactoryLink ECS and

others. Client applications can also be run as ActiveX documents inside a web browser. For more information, contact Myrna Baron for USDATA at 212-581-6760, ext. 301.

Viking's New Data Entry Software VDE+Images Speeds Keying from Images of Unstructured Documents...

Vikng Software Services Inc. announces the release of VDE+Images, a new data entry software solution that speeds keying and increases the accuracy of information entered from images. VDE+Images is designed specifically for imaging applications where the location of the data is not predictable, either because the documents do not have a standard format or because there are a variety of forms that arrive in random order. With VDE+Images, the operator quickly and easily manipulates the image in order to locate and key the appropriate data. Hot keys let operators zoom, move, rotate and invert images with a single keystroke. The product is unique in that it allows information to be stored in the most logical and useful way, instead of automatically generating one record for each image. With VDE+Images, there are unlimited possibilities for relationships between data records and images. The software is batch-oriented. Each batch of images is subdivided into logical groupings, such as a check and a series of invoices, or all the documents pertaining to a particular real estate transaction. Contact Michael E. Glover, Vice President, at 918-491-6144, 918-494-2701 (fax).
