Informative Graphics Corp. Announces Integration with Livelink and REDLINEactivate...

Informative Graphics Corp, developer of MYRIAD viewing software, proudly announces the integration of its Java viewing product — jMYRIAD — to OpenText's Livelink and Wilbanks Technology's REDLINEactivate. REDLINEactivate, built from OpenText Livelink APIs, transforms traditional client/server view and markup software into a server-concentric, Web-based delivery system. REDLINEactivate provides server functionality for the management and associated vaulting of redline files to documents and drawings stored in the Livelink document repository. By combining rich, collaborative functionality, an intuitive Web-based user interface and a modular architecture, Livelink offers users unprecedented power and extensibility to share knowledge and collaborate within and outside an organization.

The integration with IGC's jMYRIAD allows Web viewing and redlining of documents including image formats (Multi-Page TIFF, JPEG and CALS), Native 2D CAD drawing formats (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MicroStations, CADKey, ME10, etc.), as well as standard formats, such as CGM, DXF and HPGL. Collaboration, in the form of redlines, is saved over the Web and managed by REDLINEactivate as associated overlays to the base document. Since this new technology is Java-based and served, jMYRIAD fits the zero admin desktop vision. Consistent with OpenText's enterprise approach, jMYRIAD provides a common uniform viewer across the enterprise, as well as the virtual external enterprise without the need for installation.

jMYRIAD can be served to customers and suppliers to view and redline through a browser over the Web, without the requirement to purchase or install any software. This is a significant step forward in leveraging Web-based technology to create the virtual enterprise and forge a closer relationship for requirements collaboration on a per customer basis. jMYRIAD operates in intranet, internet and (e)xtranet environments without compromising firewall security.

"We are very pleased with the resulting solution, since it furthers Informative Graphics' leadership in Web technology and our commitment to the development of graphical solutions for document collaboration," said Gary Heath, President of Informative Graphics.

In another release, the company announced that its product jMYRIAD has been certified 100% Pure Java. Sun established the 100% Pure initiative to bring consistency and high quality standards to the Java development industry. The key benefit is uniformity across Java based implementations, which translate into higher levels of usability and stability. Web delivery of documents is rapidly becoming the de facto methodology for data delivery in the enterprise, and jMYRIAD was created to address this need. Informative Graphics is strategically committed to the development of graphical viewing technologies over the Web, and to Web-based technology for collaboration. jMYRIAD is already integrated with several EDM and PDM applications, allowing the end user to manage check in/check/out of annotations across the Web.

PLP Unveils Integrated, Open-platform Document Management/Distribution Solution...

DCRS combines engineering document management technology with high-speed digital reprographics and distribution tools for unprecedented document control. PLP Digital Systems introduced its Document Control and Reprographics System (DCRS), a melding of PLP’s digital reprographics software, PlotWorks, and partner company TSA/ADVET’s Falcon/DMS engineering document management system.  DCRS allows users to archive, view, edit and print technical documents from the desktop when they are needed, even over the Internet or company intranet. As the world of technical documents and drawings continues to go digital, DCRS offers a solution to controlling electronic documents in what is a traditionally a paper-based process.  Together, the open architecture of PlotWorks and the document management features of Falcon/DMS let users manage technical documents in virtually any operating system, bringing them significant convenience and cost savings.

DCRS supplies the tools to create, control, track, manage, distribute, store and print digital documents. The result is a corporate knowledge base that exists in a digital format and can be accessed on demand, at any time by users at any location – a scalable, reliable “digital vault.”  Since DCRS allows users to control a document through its entire lifecycle, final documents will not be misplaced and current revisions will be available to all users, without cross-checking procedures to ensure time is not wasted making redundant edits.  Its digital vault keeps documents organized and secure, eliminating the need to manually file, access, update and re-file often-used drawings, saving time and money.

DCRS is a scalable system that can be integrated into an organization’s current system of printers and plotters, as well as scanners, and supports the products of many major manufacturers, including Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Oce'`, Contex, and KIP.  PLP Digital Systems also offers a full-service package in which it evaluates and recommends the best plan for implementation, integrates the software with the chosen system and teaches users how to take advantage of DCRS superior engineering document management system.

In another release, PLP Digital Systems announced version 5.0 of its PlotWorks digital reprographics software. PlotWorks is an integral component of PLP’s DCRS (Document Control and Reprographics System), the complete document control and reprographics solution. PlotWorks 5.0 now includes color RTL file support for printing to HP Design Jet color printers. Users can now print architectural renderings and other color images via PlotWorks. It now supports selection of multiple destinations for print jobs. This feature makes it much easier for users to manage multiple, distributed printers. Xerox Introduces First 600dpi Highlight Color Production Printer...

Xerox Corporation announced the first black-plus-one-color production printer with 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) print resolution, to address more graphically demanding applications than the current generation of lower-resolution models. The new Xerox DocuPrint 92C Enterprise Printing System (EPS) can apply color to improve the effectiveness of nearly any document at costs just slightly higher than black-and- white printing and at print speeds as fast as 92 pages per minute (ppm), the industry benchmark for highlight color printers. Targeted applications include mission-critical invoices and customer statements that can be enhanced with personalized charts and graphs; image-rich direct mail pieces, newsletters manuals and proposals that may include photographs, line art, and variable data and images; and a variety of forms, reports, policy statements and legal documents. The new model provides a cost-effective alternative to full-color printing for most monochrome documents that can be made more effective through the use of color.

The DocuPrint 92C EPS is open and modular and supports every industry-standard data stream for straightforward deployment both in data center production print facilities and as a workgroup printer on client-server networks. Supported data streams include:

PostScript, PCL for jobs from network, client/server or enterprise resource planning (ERP) environments; LCDS, Metacode and ASCII for mainframe applications; and IPDS and AFPDS for IBM Print Services Facility (PSF) platforms. A single DocuPrint 92C EPS can be configured to operate in one or more of these environments.

The new model is based upon the same Xerox patented tri-level xerography as the successful Xerox DocuPrint 4890 and 4850 HighLight Color Laser Printing Systems. This technology uses an exclusive one-pass color process to simultaneously expose both the black and color images, ensuring excellent registration to produce accurate and graphically rich tints and shades. The new model uses the same 10 toner colors - red, green, royal, blue, cardinal, violet, brown, ruby, cyan, magenta - as the DocuPrint 4890 and 4850, and their applications will run seamlessly on the DocuPrint 92C with no programming changes. Operating expenses are also the same: color costs as little as two-tenths of a cent more per page than monochrome-only printing, even for documents with color borders, variable data, and shading.

The DocuPrint 92C can have paper capacities of as many as 3,500 sheets through as many as four programmable input trays for automatic insertion of different paper stocks. Low- resolution data input, such as 240- and 300-dpi, is converted to produce 600-dpi output. Duplexing at speeds as fast as 46 ppm is standard. For efficient finishing, a 1500-sheet two-bin stacker, an optional 2,000-sheet stitcher-stacker, and a wide range of third-party in-line options are available. Recommended print volume is as many as 1.3 million impressions per month.

The value of the DocuPrint 92C EPS is enhanced by a range of Xerox and thlrd-party software and services. They include:

Variable Data Intelligent PostScript Printware (VIPP) - Software that resides on the printer to handle variable data, including importing of ASCII and EBCDIC data for formatting into documents. VIPP also provides added intelligence to PostScript, enabling dynamic document construction in PostScript that is similar to LCDS, and providing more efficient print and format commands than stand-alone PostScript.

DigiPath Production Software - Software and a PC platform that accommodate World Wide Web, network and hardcopy input, and provide scan and make-ready services, and a digital library for document storage, management and viewing on the Web.

Xerox Document and Interface Design Services - A Xerox service offering assistance with highlight color redesigns, document reengineering, and online user interface design for accessing documents in digital form, as well as hard copy.

The DocuPrtnt 92C EPS will be available worldwide in October 1999 at a manufacturer's suggested price of $265,000 In the U.S. It will also be available in Canada, Latin America, and Europe. A version that supports LCDS printing is scheduled to launch during the first quarter 2000.  For more information, visit www.xerox.com/print.
